Introduction

Many of us have tried one thing or another when it comes to weight loss. Even a balanced lifestyle of eating healthy and excessing regularly doesn’t always produce results we want . So where do you turn when you feel like you’ve run out of options?

Like many, we can now turn to semiglutides also known as GLP-1 injections. For Central Park Weight Loss, we’ve chosen Wegovey®. It’s an U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved  injection taken once a week. Before starting your weight loss journey, we want to walk you through everything you should know.

The Skinny on Weight Loss Injections

Weight loss injections are FDA approved prescription drugs administered with a small needle to help with weight management. At Central Park Weight Loss, our certified medical professionals are highly trained to keep you safe and comfortable.

Medications like Ozempic® and Wegovy® are primarily used for type 2 diabetes, but they can also be prescribed off-label to support weight loss. When a medication is used off-label, it means the drug is approved by the FDA for a particular use, but a healthcare provider prescribes it to treat something else. This is a legal and common practice for many medications on the market today. These drugs mimic the GLP-1 hormone, which is made in your gastrointestinal tract when you eat. The GLP-1 hormone is linked to:

  • Reduced appetite

  • Feelings of fullness

  • Insulin production, which lowers blood sugar (glucose) levels

Although Wegovy® and other weight loss injections can produce life-changing results, a healthy lifestyle of eating well and exercising regularly is encouraged.

How Does Wegovy® Work?

Imagine your appetite as a dial that’s turned all the way up. Wegovy® gently turns that dial down. By acting on receptors in your brain, it:

  • Slows gastric emptying, so meals keep you feeling satisfied longer

  • Reduces hunger signals, so you snack less between meals

  • Curbs cravings, especially for sugary or high‑fat foods

This isn’t about skipping meals or living on celery—it’s about retraining your body to recognize real hunger and fullness.

Is Wegovy® Right for You?

You might be asking, “How do I lose weight safely? And is Wegovy® the answer?” Here’s how we figure that out together:

  1. Eligibility Check

    • Your BMI (body mass index) meets FDA criteria (≥30, or ≥27 with related conditions).

    • You understand that Wegovy® is part of a comprehensive lifestyle plan—diet, movement, stress management, and ongoing support.

  2. Your First Visit

    • In‑office or telehealth appointment: we chat about your goals, review your medical history, and calculate your BMI.

    • We answer every question—no medical jargon, just real talk.

  3. Personalized Plan

    • We don’t do cookie‑cutter here. Your dosage schedule, nutrition guidance, and check‑in frequency (weekly or biweekly) are all tailored to you.

At Central Park Weight Loss, you’re not a number on a chart—you’re our partner in success.

What You Should Expect

Wegovy’s efficacy was demonstrated in a series of large clinical trials (the STEP trials) that enrolled thousands of adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27 with weight-related health issues) in the U.S. and globally. Participants who used Wegovy alongside diet and exercise achieved unprecedented levels of weight loss for a medication. In the largest 68-week trial, patients on Wegovy lost an average of about 12–15% of their initial body weight, far outpacing the ~2–3% weight loss seen in the placebo group.

For example, one trial reported a mean −14.9% change in body weight at 68 weeks with Wegovy, compared to just −2.4% with placebo. This translates to roughly 33–35 pounds lost on average in the Wegovy group versus only a few pounds with placebo, given the trial’s average participant weight of 105 kg (231 lbs). Such results represent the largest weight reduction recorded with any anti-obesity medication to date, approaching the kind of effectiveness previously seen only with bariatric surgery.

Starting Wegovy® is like training for a marathon—you’ll see milestones along the way. While everyone’s journey is unique, here’s a general timeline:

  • Weeks 1–4: Appetite control kicks in. You may notice smaller portions feel more satisfying.

  • Months 2–4: Most clients see steady, sustainable weight loss. Clothing feels looser; energy levels often rise.

  • Months 5+: Your new habits take root. With ongoing support, many maintain or continue to lose weight.

Understanding Potential Side Effects

Let’s be honest: new medications come with side effects. The good news is that most Wegovy® users experience only mild, temporary issues, like:

  • Nausea or mild stomach upset (tip: try ginger tea or smaller, more frequent meals)

  • Occasional headache or fatigue

  • Injection‑site redness or itching

Rare—but important—risks include gallbladder issues, pancreatitis, or thyroid concerns. That’s why our medical team monitors you closely, adjusting your plan at the first sign of trouble. And before you begin, we screen for any contraindications (e.g., history of pancreatitis or thyroid tumors) to keep you safe.
